Do inmates ever resist when it comes time for their execution?

After seeing movies like The Green Mile and Dead Man Walking, I was wondering why anyone would be so calm and docile while being led to their death. If it was me, I would like to think that I'd fight every step of the way and essentially force the guards to carry me, kicking and screaming, to the death chamber.
