144 is extremely low. That would make you a few days after conception. There probably wouldnt be many clot or and I only bled with both of my miscarriages for 3 to 4 days and I was 4 to 6 weeks pregnant. If the levels were dropping and not doubling then I am sorry to tell you but you probably had a chemical pregnancy(a pregnancy that doesnt last past 6 weeks). Blood work doent lie. I still felt pregnant when they told me. It is hard to come to understanding with, but you have too. I am sorry for your loss.
