Question about a funeral?

I'm writing a book, and I have a question. If someone went missing, and they think they found a body for her, would they allow someone to have a funeral before they examined the body more closely. They find one of her teeth in the stomach of the body, and they're pretty sure it's the missing girl, so would they let the family have a funeral, then double check?
