Help with ipod touch 3g?

My friend and I have the ipod touch 3g. But with her ipod when you unlock it, the wallpaper fades to the backround? She told me it was an update. I think I might have missed the update, but I downloaded the latest one on my ipod. How can I get the wallpaper on my home screen backround?!
