How do you defeat the thorian in Mass Effect 1?

I just got the game, and i got to the part with the giant mind controling plant and i just cant beat it. Im a level 19 soldier, and i have Tali and the biotics chick in my squad. it autosaved right before i entered the chamber with the thorian, so i cant go back for more supplies, and i only have 1 med pack.
