Questions about Jewish Funerals?

the mother of a client of mine that i pet sit for her mother passed away. i'm not jewish myself and i know nothing about a jewish funeral. would it be appropiate for me to send some flowers to the home of my client, something like a dish garden or something that she could keep in her home for years to come? thanks in advance!
